If you’re looking for an even more hands-on experience than a workshop, this free program is for you.

Please complete this form by 5 p.m.on Friday, April 23 to apply for the 2021 Milwaukee Film Festival Educator Fellowship. (This year, offered virtually!) 

Structured like a seminar, the fellowship includes a pre-festival session, a handful of required readings, three post-festival discussion sessions, a final presentation/capstone (in February), and a list of required festival films. Fellows will be required to create and share a teaching object (assignment activity, mini curricular module, lesson plan, etc) as their capstone activity of the program.

Educators selected for the free program will receive a festival pass (retail price: $140) and complimentary copies of required readings/books. The fellowship should take approximately 30-40 hours to complete between May and August, with the bulk of that time spent viewing films during the festival (May 6-20).

2021 Meeting Dates will be offered virtually:

Monday, May 3 (evening time TBD) - Pre-festival Orientation
May 6-20 - Milwaukee Film Festival
Tuesday, June 22 (1-4pm)  - Post-festival Session 1
Thursday, June 24 (1-4pm) - Post-festival Session 2
July dates TBD - non-mandatory meet-ups to workshop projects
Early August date TBD - Capstone Presentations Event & Final Projects Due

Who is eligible?

The 2021 Educator Fellowship is open to educators working with elementary, middle, and high school aged students in out-of-school time and traditional classroom settings (and everything in between!) as well as to pre-service educators hoping to gain specific expertise in the use of film in their future practice.

If I'm selected as a fellow, how much does enrollment/participation cost?

Our fellowship is completely free. Educators selected for the program will receive a festival pass (retail price: $140) and complimentary copies of required readings and books.

What is the time commitment and workload?

The fellowship should take approximately 30–40 hours to complete between May and August, with the bulk of that time spent viewing films during the virtual festival. Can I get credits for participation in the fellowship?

Yes! We are thrilled to announce that this year's Fellows will have the option to earn credit through UWM's Certificate for Arts Integration and Learning program!

Rockstar alum fellows Heather Hanson and Joe Duellman will return to facilitate our post-festival sessions.

Can I participate in the program more than once?
