Legacies of Mistrust: A Conversation with Harriet Washington
Harriet Washington appears as a part of the “Legacies of Mistrust” event on Sunday, September 15 in the UWM Union Ballroom.
Harriet Washington
An award-winning medical writer, medical ethicist, and the author of the best-selling book, Medical Apartheid: The Dark History of Medical Experimentation on Black Americans from Colonial Times to the Present, Harriet Washington deconstructs the politics around medical issues. Painting a compelling and disturbing portrait of medicine, race, sex, and the abuse of power by telling individual human stories, Washington’s work examines the historical effects of “scientific racism” on African American health issues, making a case for broader political consciousness of science and technology.
